Our 3 year anniversary at karkloof Safari Spa
Yesterday, my hubby Dale and I got to celebrate our three year wedding anniversary together at the simply MAGNIFICENT Karkloof Safari Spa! We had such a relaxing, rejuvenating and tranquil experience which I am super excited to be sharing with you.
We woke up a 5:30am to the most BEAUTIFUL Durban Summer’s Day, got ready, packed our swimming costumes, made a quick nutri-bullet smoothie to-go and then, The Horne’s were off on our little adventure for the day! We enjoyed a scenic 2-hour drive from Ballito to Karkloof Safari Spa. I mean, how AMAZING is living in KZN?! You get to go from the sea to the bush in just a couple of hours! We really get to make the most of all that nature has to offer in our beautiful province!
Upon arrival we drove over a tranquil bridge which also happens to be a mini waterfall… GUUUYS! It was SO pretty! OH! And while we were driving over the bridge we noticed the most gorgeous (MASSIVE) lizard lying by the waters edge – I’m convinced he knew that Dale and I were arriving and he was there to welcome us into the reserve 😉
We parked our car, grabbed our bags and jumped into a game vehicle that was taking us to the spa. We enjoyed every second of our 10-minute drive up the hill because we got to be in the company of so many beautiful animals and their cutie pie little babies! It was SUCH a treat and totally soul-soothing to be able to experience this bit of nature while on route to our Karkloof Safari Spa day.
In a nutshell, Karkloof offers you a combination of day spa packages coupled with safari and nature BLISS – which is RIGHT up our alley. Dale and I opted to do the SILK Full Day Package: (R3200 per person) which included the following:
- Light continental breakfast on arrival
- Welcome Ceremonial Food Bath and Salt Scrub
- 90minute Herbal Thai Poultice Massage
- Use of the hydrotherapy area
- Lunch (3-course meal)
- 75-minute Honey & Melon Facial
- 60-minute Lanna Hot Oil and Scalp Massage
Once we finalized the treatments we wanted to do, we got into our body hugging luxury robes for the day and let me tell you – I could already feel the de-stressing begin! Our experience kicked-off with a yummy breakfast and our tummies enjoyed a range of fresh croissants, muffins, fruit and yoghurt. We were then ready for our first treatment, a 90-minute Herbal Thai Poultice Massage. Now, I have had my fair share of massages in my life – but I can honestly say that I have never walked out of a massage feeling so chilled out in my entire life! We especially chose this treatment because of its muscle tension healing benefits and it did NOT disappoint!
In our very zoned out state Dale and I went on to max out in the spa’s hydrotherapy area – which included a steam room, sauna room, a 9 degree plunge cold pool, a 42 degree plunge hot pool PLUS the BIGGEST and warmest bubble bath/pool you have ever seen! After all of this relaxing, soaking and lounging around we were hungry again (go figure) – our lunch was a beautiful three-course meal that included butternut soup, a steak salad plus a papaya and almond smoothie for dessert.
Whether you are eating or on your way to a treatment – chances are you will be greeted by some peaceful wildliferoaming through the spa. We were often in the presence of nyala (male and female) plus chirping birds having a bath in some of the water fountains.
For our last two treatments – we were treated to the most delicious Honey and Melon Facial! I never knew that facials could smell soooooooo yummy! THEN we moved on to our Lanna Hot Oil and Scalp Massage… OOOOOH BOY – imagine hot oil being poured and massaged into your hair for 60 minutes?! ABSOLUTE HEAVEN I tell you!
A special mention has to made to the very talented Karkloof therapists – you can be rest assured that you are experiencing the BEST of the BEST because you really are! Each therapist has literally been hand picked straight out of Thailand’s finest spas and resorts.
We ended off our day with a cold glass of lemon water, lazing on loungers, in our gowns under the trees, in silence listening to nature. BLISSED OUT would actually be an understatement in describing how we felt after our experience yesterday. I feel so incredibly grateful to have been able to share this unforgettable day with my gorgeous hubby. What a divine way to have celebrated our anniversary together and to end of a jam-packed year! HOLIDAY MODE: OFFICIALLY ACTIVATED 😉
