My Body is Amazing
I used to have a very damaged relationship with my body. I never really liked it nor would I have EVER considered it to be anywhere near amazing because I was far too busy worrying about how it looked. In fact, I didn’t want much to do with “her” other than change her into something that was better and prettier.
Day after day I would stand in the mirror and say ugly things about my body. I believed that it wasn’t good enough and was very quick to always point out all my “imperfections”. I would over-exercise and diet throughout my destructive quest to achieve the ridiculous idea of “perfection” that was ingrained into my mind.
Can you relate, Beautiful?
After a while I got sick and tired of this toxic battle and FINALLY realized the problem wasn’t my body and how it looked. The problem was how I had been taught and conditioned to view it!
The world loves convincing us that who and what we are isn’t good enough and but I call B-S because you and your body are actually nothing short of a miracle! For the record, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with your body’s shape, its size, scars, imperfections or even your stretch marks.
I want every incredible woman reading this now to know that It is NOT your body’s job to look like the girls on Instagram or in magazines and it is NOT your body’s job to be “perfect”. Your body is made up of billions of cells and do you know what they care about? YOU! And only you! Do you know what their purpose is? To keep you alive and well each and every day.
If you are currently struggling with similar body image issues and negative thoughts like I used to, I want to invite you (right now) to PLEASE be gentler and kinder towards your body because it is doing the best that it can for you – day in and day out. Without ever having to ask, your special body fights off illness, mends wounds, digests your food, carries you through every single step for your life, never misses a beat or forgets a breath. No matter what you say or do your body is ALWAYS there for you. Now if that isn’t the epitome of unconditional and endless love then I don’t know what is!
Every single thing that you do in your life is 100% facilitated by the mind-blowing creation that is your body. So, the next time you think of beautiful things, I hope that you won’t forget to count your body, Gorgeous!
If you ever find yourself having a bad/negative body moment I encourage you to try the following:
- FLIP IT! Quickly change a negative body thought to one of love and appreciation. Example, “I don’t like my legs” FLIP IT TO “thank you amazing legs for allowing me to walk”
- Whip out a piece of paper and write a gratitude/love letter to your body – reminding yourself of all the wonderful things your body does for you at any given moment.
- Whenever you walk past a mirror, make sure that you don’t leave it without saying something nice to yourself.
Today is Valentine’s Day and while many of us are focusing on loving others today, I want to encourage you to just take a few seconds to embrace & love your body because it is the most amazing thing that you will ever own. #mybodyisamazing
