LETS GET FRUITY
WHOA! Where is this year going ?! It’s June… ALREADY?!
Lets talk a little bit about fruit and why you should be eating it everyday. Yes! EVERYDAY girls! I like to think of fruit as nature’s candy. The BEST part about eating nature’s DELICIOUS candy is that it’s rich in essential nutrients. Instead of choosing that chocolate bar (which is packed in processed sugar and empty calories) rather choose to eat fruit. Fruit not only satisfies your sweet tooth but also nourishes your body.
There are MANY benefits to eating fruit. Many are excellent sources of vitamin C, folate and potassium. They are low in fat and sodium and they are also high in dietary fiber. Dietary fiber is the indigestible carbohydrates found in fruit (as well as vegetables, grains and nuts) which is essential for proper bowel function. Fiber also makes you to feel fuller, helping you to consume fewer calories.
Research shows that eating fruit daily contributes to overall health and can reduce risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers. Aim to have two servings of fruit a day.
One serving of fruit:
- one medium apple, orange or banana
- 1/2 cup of chopped fruit
Fruits that I love:
- all berries
- kiwi fruit
