Is it time for a Social Media Detox?
Last weekend I FINALLY did it my first social media detox (ever) and let me tell you Beautiful, it was all kinds of EPIC! I actually can’t believe that I haven’t done this sooner 🙊
We live in a world that makes 24/7 communication more accessible by the day! Between emails, texts, phone calls, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, twitter and hundreds of other tempting apps and communication mediums… I mean, let’s be honest, Gorgeous! It really has become more difficult than ever before for us to go “off line” (literally & figuratively)… even just for a short period of time!
Have you ever stopped to consider just how frequently you pick up your phone in a day? And how much of your precious time you spend scrolling (on autopilot) through other people’s lives, replying to messages and making your way through all the info that gets thrown at us daily? It’s actually pretty scary when you think about it… Well, at least it was for me when I became aware of it!
Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE technology & I LOVE social media because without them Healthy Girl would not exist, I wouldn’t be able to do what sets my soul on fire and I wouldn’t be able to connect with so many of you amazing woman who are reading this right now! BUT having said that, being switched on 24/7 does get overwhelming. SO! In order for me to bring all this connection & communication in my life back into balance, I decided that finally treating myself to a social media detox was just what the doctor ordered!
I was easier said than done though because truthfully, I felt a bit anxious… What would life be like without social media?! I have become so attached and used to it! But, I simply decided to start small and chose to disconnect from Saturday morning until Sunday evening. All I did was delete my most used social media apps (Instagram & Facebook) from my phone.
At first it all felt really strange! I kept picking up my phone every few minutes to check and scroll. I almost didn’t know what to do with myself… ALMOST! About 30mins to an hour later, I managed to ease into my day without social media and it was super blissful! I got to have more “me” time, family & friend time, do more of the things that make me happy and recharge my batteries. Once Sunday evening arrived, I was totally roaring & ready to take on the new week ahead!
During my social media detox I:
- Soaked up precious moments
- Did more meditation
- Had more time to be creative
- Found some much needed stillness
- Discovered & listened to inspiring & thought-provoking podcasts
- FINALLY made my vision board (it only took me a year!)
- FINALLY got the clarity I needed to write down and be crystal clear about both my personal & business goals for 2018
If you want to feel more present, relaxed, happy, energized and focused then do yourself a favor and try out a social media detox! Go on and delete some of your social apps – it could be for a few hours, half a day, a whole day, two days or a whole weekend. You can choose to do this at some point each week or even just when you feel like things have gotten a bit out of balance and need some restoration! Whatever works for you! I PROMISE that you will thank yourself for it because it makes your life that much better! Try it and you’ll see what I mean 😉
