HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ACTIVATED CHARCOAL?
Earlier this week my friends & I got to enjoy yet another AMAZING Propa Food Bar Smoothie Stack – they hit it out the park yet again! One of the ingredients in the delicious colour blocked stack was activated charcoal (AC).
My friends were under the impression that activated charcoal is fabulous for detoxifying the body as well as clearing up skin breakouts. As I am sure many of you (like them) have noticed, AC smoothies & juices have been popping up on more & more health menus around the world. Now, I am going to briefly educate you on the uses & benefits of AC as well as the precautions you must take when you choose to ingest it. YES! AC is detoxifying BUT like I always say, too much of a good thing is not actually a good thing. AC is PERFECTLY safe and harmless in small amounts ALSO provided that you are taking it correctly!
We always keep AC in our house as traditionally it is used in cases of accidental ingestion of toxins/chemicals, stomach bugs, food poisoning or even for drug overdoses. This is because AC has an amazing ability to bind to toxins or chemicals in the body & gets rid of the unwanted/harmful substances before they can cause damage.
Because of this binding ability it is VERY important to note that the ingestion of AC may reduce/prevent the absorption of certain drugs or nutrients. Therefore, is it strongly recommended that AC should not be taken within TWO HOURS of vitamins or other medications because it will keep the body from absorbing them. Women who are on the contraceptive pill – be very cautious!
I hope that you guys found this helpful! As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, AC is NOT harmful or toxic in any way – you just need to take extra care around the ingestion of AC & medication! Have you tried activated charcoal before?
