Do you really need to take supplements to be healthy?

We all know that vitamins and minerals are essential for good health and chances are that you have taken supplements at some point or another in order to restore or insure better overall health.

Lets face it! We all want to be the happiest and healthiest versions of ourselves, right? And thanks to our incredibly busy lives and fast-paced society, wouldn’t it be nice if we could all just take a magic pill or set of pills that will help us to achieve optimal health with the bare minimum effort? OF COURSE it would be easier and this is why the supplement industry is more competitive than ever! It can be very confusing and even daunting trying to decide which brand and which supplements to take because there are SO many options. Which one will make my skin glow? Make me perform better? Take my health issues away? Make me feel better? Make my life easier? Help me age less?

Which brings me back to my question, do you really need to take supplements in order to be healthy? Let me get one thing straight with you, Gorgeous! Supplements are not a magic solution to everlasting health! Although I am a BIG supporter of taking high-quality supplements when needed (more on that below), I personally believe that NOTHING compares to the nourishment that you receive from a well-balanced diet of REAL, natural and wholesome foods.

Yes, popping a pill to quickly help you get the nutrients your body needs is MUCH easier than having to make some difficult food and lifestyle changes. BUT a pill will never be as good for your precious body as nourishing fresh, local and seasonal produce. This is why supplements are called SUPplements, they exist to help SUPPORT you in times of need, not replace!

In an ideal world, we would obtain everything our bodies need from natural food and shouldn’t need to take supplements. That being said, in the current modern day world that we live in – it has become pretty tricky for us to effectively obtain all the nutrients that we need from our daily diets. Many of us have a string of nutrient deficiencies these days, that can lead to your body not functioning optimally, which can ultimately result in serious health problems down the line. But don’t worry, Gorgeous! With some eating and lifestyle changes coupled with good quality supplements to help fill in the gaps, these nutritional deficiencies can easily be sorted out.

What has contributed to our modern day nutrient deficiencies?

First of all, the rise of heavily processed and highly refined commercialized “junk” food has left our bodies literally starving for nourishment. Because these “foods” are so highly processed, all the nutritional goodness that our bodies need to thrive are either stripped away or in some cases are replaced with very harmful substances. This leaves us with empty calories that have little to no nourishment, which is not good or beneficial for our health in anyway.

Secondly, our modern day lives are incredibly busy. Between every day demands, stressors, emails, phones and our go-go-go attitudes we often forget to make time to stop and take care of ourselves. By not stopping to care for our bodies and listening to their internal signs our bodies are slowly but surely becoming more and more depleted in the essential vitamins and minerals that we need in order to achieve our maximum health potential.

This is where supplements come in handy and this is where their place in our lives is crucial. Supplements can help you to replenish what your body has lost as a result of the negative side effects from your modern day life. Good quality supplements make it possible to overcome nutritional deficiencies rapidly. They are a great pillar of strength to lean on and utilize while you adjust your food and lifestyle habits in order to prevent nutritional deficiencies from happening again in the future.

SO! How do you know if you need to be taking supplements?

Its pretty simple really… LISTEN to your body to what your body is telling you!


  1. Use supplements as an excuse to not treat your body the way it deserves.
  2. Take supplements in order to ‘insure yourself’ against poor eating and lifestyle habits.
  3. Take supplements because you read it somewhere, someone told you too or because it is the norm.
  4. Take supplements unless your doctor has told you to do so.
  5. Buy low-quality supplements. Give your body the BEST!


  1. Consult with your doctor before introducing any supplement into you health regime.
  2. Check in with YOUR precious body and pay attention to the following warning signs; chronic fatigue, stress, brain fog, digestive issues, low energy levels or if you have been recently been diagnosed with a disease.

If you are experiencing any of the above, it can be an indicator of a compromised immune system and that you might have some nutritional deficiencies that need to be addressed. This is why you must get in touch with your doctor in order figure out what is going on with your body so that you can adjust your eating (food first) and lifestyle habits while getting the added support from an individualized supplement plan to help get your body happy and healthy again.

It is very important for you understand that we are all different. What works for one person will not necessarily work for another. We also like to believe that if something is good for us then surely more of it will be even better? WRONG! Just as too little vitamins and minerals can be harmful for us, so can too much! Which is why you must never self-prescribe or take something because someone told you to. In my opinion, the best way to see if you really need to take supplements is by doing a simple blood test, it will tell you everything you need to know. Always work together with your doctor to see what you body is in need of as a unique individual.

Let me tell you a little personal story!

Just like you, I feel the daily pressures of modern day living. I have had nutritional deficiencies of my own over the years. I work closely alongside my doctor so that we can check in with my body on a regular basis to see what extra support is or is no longer needed. It is a work in progress and is ever evolving.

For the last few months I have been on an individualized supplement plan of probiotics, vitamin c, magnesium and digestive enzymes. This has been a wonderful supportive combination for me and I have definitely felt my immunity improve.
